Woahink Lake

Woahink Lake is east of Highway 101 across from Jesse M. Honeyman State Park; the northwestern shores of the lake are part of the State Park. It is a “cryptodepression” lake, extending about 36 feet below sea level at its deepest part (74’). It was formed during the Pleistocene Epoch when the Siltcoos River was filled with glacial melt and sand dunes built up from the sediment blocked the flow. The lake is about 820 acres with several small arms reaching to the north that are accessed by paddling under the bridges on Canary Road. A larger arm, Summerbell, is on the eastern side. The lake was at one time called Clear Lake but is known by its Anglicized Siuslaw name, although the meaning of woahink (waxiniik) has been lost. On the south end, Woahink drains through Woahink Creek into Siltcoos Lake, which shares its watershed.

Woahink Lake Launch Sites
