Tenmile Lake

Tenmile Lake (actually two lakes - South and North Tenmile Lakes) is the largest freshwater lake in Southern Oregon, with a shoreline tracing 42 miles. North Tenmile Lake was called Skanich by the Quuiich people. South Tenmile Lake was called Ske-ich by the Hanis Coos people who lived there. Early in the 20th century, Tenmile Lake provided the ideal habitat for cutthroat trout, silver salmon and steelhead as they passed through on their way to spawn in the tributary streams throughout the area. The introduction of other species took its toll on these fish and now largemouth bass and bluegills are abundant, thriving in the shallow, weedy waters.
